Fire talks

A 24-hour strike set for January 29 was called off. Acas has been involved in brokering new talks in this six-month long series of strikes. The talks are set to take place at the Acas London headquarters and rumours of a prospective deal are circulating the brigade. They involve the FBU accepting a cut in leave for 1996 with a promise to restore it in the next financial year. FBU members are rightly suspicious after a series of talks held out by management have led to nothing. The question for the FBU is how to take the dispute forward after six months of selective action.
